MESSAGE FROM THE PREZ - VOLUNTEER

Updated: Mar 8, 2020

In my last message, discussed are the opportunities that the Windansea Surf Club has to forge strong bonds and strategic alliances with other community organizations.

One of these organizations is the Kiwanis Club of La Jolla, http://kiwanisclublajolla.org/.

If you recall, the mission of this amazing non for profit is to “Serve the children of the world”.  The La Jolla chapter provides grants to many organizations, programs and events that help kids here in San Diego and South of the border. The Windansea Surf Club received such a grant in 2019 to support the Club’s Menehune Contest which benefits the youth of our surf community from as far away as Hawaii and Baja Mexico and San Diego and counties to the North.

For almost 40 years The Kiwanis Club of La Jolla has hosted runners from around the world at the La Jolla Half Marathon. This race raises approximately $250,000 per year the vast majority of which is given away in the form of grants to schools, orphanages, scholarships, events, etc. Thanks to the efforts of WSC member and Board of Director, Jeff Morrow, last year The Club fielded a team of 20 volunteers to help man water stations and provide support to race participants. This year it is our goal to double or if possible triple the number of volunteers for this event.

By helping Kiwanis with the La Jolla Half, it opens the doors for the Club to receive additional grant dollars to help our youth, both in community service and competition. Not to mention our assistance aligns us perfectly with our Mission Statement which is:

“The Windansea Surf Club is dedicated to promoting excellence in our ocean and community, preserving and respecting Windansea’s past, protecting ocean and coastal environments, fostering a positive image of surfers locally and globally through charity and competition and supporting our youth for a brighter future.”

For those of you who would like to support your Club by helping Kiwanis with the 2020 running of the La Jolla Half Marathon please click on the the link below or contact Jeff Morrow at jeffkmorrow@gmail.com.

Respectfully,

Bill “Brasil” Fitzmaurice
