It seems as though the year has barely begun and our comp teams are already hitting the ground running and taking charge.
The Coalition of Surfing Clubs held its first of a series of ten contests this past February 15th at Morro Bay. This contest is so gnarly it is called “The Big, Bad & Ugly”.
Windansea missed winning by 10 points and was barely edged out by the home team, The Estero Beach Surf Club. Our Spartans fought hard and fought well and brought with them much Aloha. Thank you Ozstar for putting the team together and leading our Aloha Warriors. And thank you team for pouring your hearts and souls into each of these events. If our VP and Comp Team Director, Joel Tudor had been there along with Jon Roseman we would have been Win and Sea you later.
One might ask, “Where was Joel?” Well, he was hanging out in Australia winning the 2020 Noosa Longboard Open, https://www.surfertoday.com/surfing/joel-tudor-wins-2020-noosa-longboard-open. Congratulations Joel and thank you for ………..well, for being you, being the VP of the Windansea Surf Club, being our Comp Team Director and helping us win almost every contest we enter and yes for winning Noosa!
Our Braveheart, devoted son and father, Jon Roseman was not able to compete because his amazing father Dr Roseman passed away. Our sincerest Condolences to Jon Roseman and his family. Jon’s service to the Club as WSC as President, Board of Director and Comp Team Director and fierce competitor is unparalleled. Our love and prayers are with you and Helena!
And, the icing on the comp cake has got to be our new affiliate club, The La Jolla Board Riders, coming in third place at Seaside this past February 15th. This contest was the second of a series of three hosted and put on by the West Coast Board Riders, https://www.westcoastboardriders.com. This is a highly competitive series with top ranked amateur and pro surfers from North, Central and Southern California. La Jolla Board Riders was just recently formed and adopted by WCBR and this was our second foray in this series. In both events we competed in the So Cal division against four other teams from Oceanside, Carlsbad, San Clemente and Encinitas. On our first attempt this past October, we came in fifth or last place. So our third place finish is an incredible accomplishment considering this is a new team and this was our second outing. Going from dead last to middle of the pack is awesome. Big thanks to WSC members and La Jolla Board Riders Co Directors and Co Team Captains Chuck Davey and Cordon Baesel for their time, energy and devotion in putting this team together. More to come!
So we, the mighty Windansea Surf Club, are off to an epic 2020 season. Our next tourneys for both our Coalition Comp Team and Board Riders are in April(See Calendar). Please all of you come and support your Club and your teams.
Big Mahalo and much love and Aloha to you all!
Bill
