Super Day for the Menehunes

Super surf and a bumper crop of Super Menehune contestants were the order of the day at 27th annual MENEHUNE + JUNIOR SURF CONTEST held Saturday at La Jolla Shores. Surf conditions were pumping for most of day and there was lots of action in and out of the water by boys and girls on short and long boards ranging in age from 4 years to 16 years. This year spectators were treated to the exploits of a record number of contestants in the Super Menehune division for surfers 7 years and under. Top honors went to Hannah Yates of San Marcos, a double winner in Girls long and short board, and Noah Brown of La Jolla, and Sawyer Roenfeldt of San Diego, who not only won their divisions but walked off with top raffle prizes, a SURF MONKEY BIKES beach cruiser and a MIKE DOYLE longboard, respectively. THANKS to all the participants, their families, our hard working volunteers, and generous Sponsors for keeping THE MENEHUNE CONTEST tradition alive since '65.
