What can I say... the water was warm, weather epic and the waves ~ small. This proved to be a challenge for our team. We had some amazing surfers not advance out of their first heat due to inconsistent and small conditions.
Cheers and spirits remained high under the Windansea tent. Mid-day Saturday we had a nice break to watch the SurfAid event get underway. Devon Howard, Isaac Wood, JoJo Roper, Jen Smith and the Brown's were hanging out in between SurfAid heats. Karl Luber invited Uncle Harold to come down and help as acting Contest Director. He recruited Chip Hasley, Kellen Lovell, Hana & Brian McEvilly, Lorenzo Villeja, JoJo Roper, Emma & Ozstar de Jourday to take turns judging and spotting up in the tower. 12 teams worked together to raise an astonishing $156,000 for SurfAid’s Mother and Child Health Programs - amazing stuff. Afterward we enjoyed dinner and dancing at Casa Escobar.
On Sunday we cheered on those savy few that did make the finals:
Joel Tudor - 1st place
Steve Bigler - 1st place
Miranda Joseph - 2nd place
Jen Smith - 2nd place
Indy Callaway - 4th place
Many thanks to the whole competition team that came out to represent including Ricky Cunningham, Hana McEvilly, Tiare Thompson, Cadu & Lorenzo Villeja, Kevin Cincotta, Bru Briggs, Mike Myers, Isaac Wood, Tosh Tudor, Emma & Star deJourday, Chance Thompson...who am i missing?
