Duke’s was the perfect venue for the WindanSea Surf Club’s Sixty Years of Preserving the Stoke, on Cinco de Mayo. Over 100 guests, many of them surf legends, celebrated the stoke, while raising nearly $38,000 for the Club’s nonprofit charitable endeavors, which include a Day at the Beach for Father Joe’s kids and Special Athletes, the Y Strong Girls Program and the La Jolla High School Foundation (college funding for demonstrated financial need). The upstairs bar and food were hosted by Duke’s La Jolla.
Prior president, Chip Hasley, whose father was a founding member of the Club in 1963, opened the evening festivities, which included historical memorabilia, exhibited throughout the live and silent auctions. Hasley created some special photos for members of the original crew who were on the infamous bus trip headed to the 1963 Malibu contest.
